SOXX - Do They Make A Difference

One of the biggest challenges in diving is getting into and out of a wetsuit.  I think we have all experienced this at least once in our experience with wetsuits.

Some of the experiences are far more challenging than others but everyone always tries to make this process easier.

Many of you have already discovered the benefit of wear a SlipIn DiveSkin when you get into that wetsuit. 

Ok ok ok, you can get some assist using the old plastic bag on the feet trick but when that wetsuit binds on the shins and knees the party's is over.  

One of the funniest thing I ever experienced  was a bet between two diving enthusiast women.  Sally challenged Beth to a wetsuit entry race.

Both women were dawning new 5 mil wetsuits that they both purchased at the local divesshop.  Both women had a Slpins Diveskin but Sally had the SlipIns Dive SOXX and Beth didn't.  One other diver on the boat deck had a watch with a timer and agreed to keep track of the time.  The timer found the whole adventure humorous but said he would start the contest.

To add a bit more humor to the adventure, a male member of the dive trip group wanted to join in on the contest.  He also had a 5 mil suit but it was older and had been worn many times.  The women said that they would be ok with the added contestant.

All 3 started and the timer gave the go signal and the clock started.

Sally put on her SlipIns Dive Soxx first, then got into her SlipIns DiveSkin.  Beth was into her SlipIns DiveSkin first.  The male participant was seated on a bench and pulling on the legs of his wetsuit.

Beth had a seat on the bench near the man in the contest and she began to pull on her wetsuit.  Her feet were sticking a bit in the legs of the wetsuit where her bare skin on her feet were exposed to the rubber on the websuit.  The gentleman had his legs halfway into the suit but was experiencing a bit of sticking ( skin to neoprene ) as well. 

Sally on the otherhand was standing upright, with a hip leaning against a rail on the boat as she stepped into her wetsuit, she stepped each leg into the suit one at a time, pulled the suit up over her behind and up to her mid-section, put her arms in the sleeves and pulled the suit up and over her shoulders. Pulling up the zipper, she gave a big smile to the other two participants who were still working on getting their lower bodies into their wetsuits.  

Beth was standing now and pulling her suit up over her shoulders.  She gave Sally a high five and she said to Sally, "You were right about the Soxx."  The gentleman was still trying to get his wetsuit up over his shoulders and was having some sticking issues with his bare skin against the neoprene. He looked at the time keeper and asked, " What was her time?"  The time keeper smiled and said,  "This is amazing. Two minutes and 17 seconds."

Sally said, " Watch this! "  She grabbed her dive boots and slipped those dive boots on right over her feet with the SlipIns Dive Soxx on.

I was a bit skeptical of this story being a one off and might not be universally reliable so I called a very good friend who is a dive instructor and dive trip leader to ask her her opinion about this story.  She laughed and said, " I'll come over so we can test the theory for ourselves. 

She came over to the house, grabbed a pair of SlipIns Dive Soxx and a SlipIns DiveSkin off the rack. She grabbed her 5 mil suit out of the trunk.  We went out the back deck that was in full sun and very warm that afternoon. 

Ok,  Time me.  She put on the Soxx, slid into the diveskin, and grabbed her wetsuit.  She just stepped into her wetsuit with no added support what so ever.  She pulled the suit over her shoulders and pulled up the zipper, then threw up her arms. 

She was into her full outfit in 2 minutes and 4 seconds with no external support what so ever.  It was one of the most amazing things I ever saw of someone getting into a heavy wetsuit. She laughed,  " How'd I do?"  I just laughed.  "That was amazing," I said.
