About SlipIns
The origin of SlipIns sun-protective swimwear
Business partners Robin Chesnie and Rick Rickman have been associated with surfing and exercise for decades.
Robin's son, a competitive surfer, helped hone her knowledge of surfing, but never quite convinced her to take up the sport herself.
Rick began long-boarding when one of his photographic subjects insisted he wouldn't be allowed to photograph him until he learned to surf. That requirement changed Rick's life for the better, and positioned him to be somewhat of an authority about surfing lifestyles.
The SlipIns “light bulb” went on in 2013
It wasn't until Rick and Robin met (through an online dating service!) that Robin developed an interest in surfing herself. Rick's enthusiasm for the sport convinced Robin to give it a try.
Robin was cold water sensitive and always needed a heavy wetsuit. The struggles of getting in and out of that cumbersome 4/3 wetsuit nearly brought her to tears on several occasions. She almost quit! Many women can relate to that struggle, whether donning a wetsuit for surfing or diving. Robin watched as other women struggled with the same issues. Then her creativity kicked into high gear. That gave birth to the SlipIns idea.
“I'll never forget the afternoon Robin came to me and said, I think we can create a product that will make it much easier for women to get in and out of these unflattering, unfriendly wetsuits." Rick knew she was on to something big.
Robin called Rick two weeks later. She said she had “just the thing that was going to make women's surfing so much better!” She had pulled out an old full body lycra catsuit from the Jane Fonda workout days, put it on before getting in to her wetsuit and VOILA. The concept of SlipIns DiveSkin/SurfSkin was born.
Slip in and out of a wetsuit with ease
At that point, little did Robin and Rick know there was such a thing as a diveskin. Divers have known for decades about wetsuit struggles. They quickly began discovering SlipIns with great excitement, and enjoyed the ease of slipping in and out of their wetsuits.
SlipIns rapidly became a go-to for surfers and divers alike. The swift business growth allowed Robin and Rick to expand their designs, and also add more products: Sun protective swimsuits, Sea Legs surf leggings, Dive Soxx, and more.
SlipIns are created and manufactured in Southern California. For that reason, they are perfectly positioned to be in tune with all the water activities that these garments are ideally suited for. Surfing, diving, freediving, paddling, swimming, boating, and so many others.
