When's the last time you gave any serious thought to your existance here on earth? I know, I know, most people are so busy these days that thinking about existence may seem to be extraneous thought. However, now that America is being led by an administration that thinks the well being of the planet is of no concern, it becomes even more important to think about our existence on earth. I spent the first 50 years of my life thinking that Earthday was just another event that school children would think about and create posters and artwork for to keep them busy.
In 1995 when Al Gore actually began to speak in public about his real concern for the health of the planet, I began to think that it might be very important for every person to begin to think about how their well being might be in jeopardy if we didn't begin to think differently about how we plan for the future.
Most recently, when we began our SlipIns business in 2014, it became clear to Robin and I that there were enough events occurring that were adversely affecting our planet that we were all going to have to pay closer attention to our planet's health. It's become clear that our oceans which are the heart of our existence, are in serious peril. The coral reefs are dying because of the warming of the planet and chemistry in the water from sun screens and lotions, the sea life is disappearing because of unmanaged over fishing, as well as being poisoned by plastics polluting our waterways.
Now Robin and I are in a place where we can raise awareness and make a difference by contributing to a healthier planet. We've taken it onto ourselves to examine some of the oceans endangered creatures and made patterns illustrating their beautiful patterns and coloration on fashion and athletic apparel.Hopefully these efforts will show the beauty of what we stand to loose if we don't start paying attention. When we sell those patterns we will be donating money to non profits who are engaging in ocean and planet protections. We wanted to announce our intent on Earthday 2019 and challenge others to do something meaningful as well before it's too late.
If nothing else, take some time on Monday April 22nd to do something of your own to improve our planet's condition.
